It is so fitting that we would end the ministry year focused on The Vine. Throughout the year, as we have learned the “I am” statements of Jesus, the prevailing theme has been that Jesus longs for us to be in the right relationship with him and he will go to great lengths to pursue, protect and rescue. We’ve learned who Jesus is and how deep his love is for us. In John 15:5, Jesus says “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
Abide means to remain steadfast and persevering. Our young parents demonstrate these characteristics in their lives regularly and particularly in this season. Much has been pruned away to make way for new fruit. In spite of uncertainty, hardship, loss and loneliness they have risen to the challenge. They have begun to practice what they are learning each week. Some have joined small groups and started Bible reading plans. They are asking questions and investigating for themselves. They have begun to experience The Bread, The Door, The Good Shepherd, The Way, The Truth and The Life, and The Resurrection.
As the year winds down, here is Jesus’ promise: abide in me and I will be your lifeline. Hang on and hang in there. Together we will overcome and do great things.
