Growth Takes Time: Meet A Volunteer
Christ calls us to serve. Time and time again scripture points us to the poor, needy, widows, and children.
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” Galatians 5:13
Spring brings renewal; flowers, green everything, sunshine, Easter. Easter leads us to reflect on the cross and the substitutionary atonement that was made on our behalf. What we know about growth, whether planting or spiritual is that it takes time. We also know there are tools to help speed things along. Good soil preparation, water and fertilization will cause the roots to take hold and spouts to spring forth. Likewise, serving gives our hearts the joy, wisdom and courage to move forward in our Christlikeness.
Susan Jandeska is one of our long time, selfless volunteers who helps make our teen program possible. Susan has been serving at Kindred Life in childcare for our Antioch program since 2008. Christ fuels her love of service and gives her a special place in heart for babies and toddlers. When Susan arranges for and serves in childcare during a program night, teen parents can focus and be served knowing their children are in loving, capable hands. Not only does Susan help the children feel safe and secure but they also receive play-inspired help with numbers, shapes and colors.
Susan says of Kindred Life:
“I chose Kindred Life Ministries because the program helps give the babies the best chance in life. Their moms and dads learn to become independent, responsible and wonderful parents.”
What does serving give in return for hours of sacrifice? Blessings in the form of hugs and smiles. Gratitude of the staff, program attendees and other volunteers. The fuel to persevere.
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 6:10
