Gurnee Kindred Life proudly graduates Abril Salas! Abril first began the program at the tender age of 16, while her son Angel was just two months old. She struggled with a lot of anger and pain but with the help of her counselor and mentor, she has grown into a confident young mother. Abril graduated high school on time while taking AP courses, earned her Associate of Arts Degree at College of Lake County and works as a manager for a local restaurant chain. Her mentor, Mary Ann, describes the transformation she has seen in Abril as, “Nothing short of amazing!” Abril is extremely grateful for the support Kindred Life Ministries has offered, highlighting the positive impact that her mentor and weekly professional counseling has had. She plans to give back to Kindred Life, staying connected through the Alumni Group.
Antioch Area Kindred Life proudly graduates Ashley Schoenke! Ashley joined Kindred Life when she was 19 and her daughter Sydney was almost two. She struggled with balancing work, parenting, and being a teenager. Being both mom and dad for her daughter was difficult. When Ashley and Sydney joined Kindred Life they lived with her dad, stepmom and sister. With so many people telling Ashley what to do it was hard for her to listen, let alone take anyone’s advice or godly counsel. With the help of the counselors at Kindred Life and her mentor, Ashley learned how to listen to other’s advice, ask questions and ultimately make informed choices about what is best for herself and her daughter. She is now a confident young mother that has secured her own apartment and reliable vehicle for herself and Sydney. She works at a local restaurant and is planning on going back to CLC this summer to earn her Associate’s Degree. Ashley is beyond grateful for the encouragement, support, friendships and godly counsel she has received over the past four years! She plans on staying in touch through the Kindred Life Alumni Group.
